Shalom!
Thank you for your interest in our Congregation. Hakafa means “encirclement,” and we hope our website and the materials found here will help you learn more about our “circle.” If you would like a packet of information mailed to your home, please let us know.
We hope you will take opportunity to visit and get to know us at Friday night services, held year-round at the Winnetka Community House (620 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka) at 8:00 p.m., with the exception of the first Friday of each month when family services start at 7:00 p.m. During the school year (September through May), Religious School is held at the Glencoe Park District’s Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe) on Sunday mornings from 9:45 a.m. to noon, with the exception of the last Sunday of the month, which is designated as a “family day.” Hebrew School is held at the Takiff Center on Tuesday afternoons from 4:15 to 6:00 p.m.
If you would like to join Congregation Hakafa, please complete and return the Membership Form and Fair Share Dues Commitment Form with your initial or full payment. If you have children you plan to enroll in our Religious/Hebrew School, please also complete the School Enrollment Form.
Our annual membership dues are set at a “fair-share” level that all financially able members are expected to pay. For fiscal 2012-2013, the “fair-share” dues amount is $2,250, and Religious and Hebrew School tuitions are $395 each. Hakafa’s dues and school fees are calculated to cover the operating budget of the congregation, because we do not solicit donations or charge for congregation events, such as the High Holidays. If you pledge at or above fair-share and will not pay in full at this time, please enclose your initial payment and indicate your proposed payment schedule on the form. If you are unable to pledge the fair-share amount, please contact our dues treasurer, John Thomason, to determine an alternative pledge amount.
In order to enroll in Religious/Hebrew School and/or receive High Holiday tickets, all dues pledges must be paid in full or a payment plan arranged at the time of membership. All commitments must be paid in full by May 1, 2013. Please provide separate checks for dues and Religious School fees. Your prompt payment helps us to lower our administrative and mailing expenses.
Our congregation prides itself on the active participation of our membership in volunteering for our many activities. Please take the time to look over the Volunteer Packet and sign up to help with an activity. This is an important element of our congregational life and it’s a great way to meet other members and to get involved!
If you would like any additional information about our congregation, please feel free to contact Judy Bramson or Monica Kornberg, our Membership Chairs, Rona Elder, our Administrator, Peter Office, our President, John Thomason, our Dues Treasurer, or Rabbi Bruce Elder.
We are happy you are considering membership at Hakafa and look forward to the opportunity to welcome you into our encirclement.
