Hakafa's Annual Adult Retreat is a chance for adult congregants (including high schoolers) to study and relax together in a warm and informal atmosphere. The program is conducted by Rabbi Robert Marx in beautiful Saugatuck, Michigan, where Rabbi Marx and his wife, Ruth, live. The purpose of the retreat is to engage in moderate amounts of study and worship, along with copious amounts of great conversation and fun, in a vacation type atmosphere.
Participants go to Saugatuck (about 3 hours from Chicago) on Friday afternoon, and meet at Rabbi Robert and Ruth Marx’s house for Shabbat dinner and an evening study program. Participants stay at the historic Rosemont Inn, which is located on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. Saturday morning begins with breakfast at the Inn, followed by a morning study program. Saturday lunch and Saturday afternoon are left open for exploration of the Saugatuck area. On Saturday night, participants have a joint dinner at a local restaurant, followed by an evening study program and short service at the Inn. Participants return to Chicago on Sunday morning.
2012 Seventh Annual Adult Retreat
April 20-22, 2012
This year's theme for the study sessions is:
Echoes of the Inquisition
Registration Deadline: January 31
The Cost
The Rosemont Inn has 14 rooms, with an average rate of $175 per night, although the actual rate will vary depending upon the particular room. The room charge includes breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. The total estimated cost is about $310 per person for couples (about $470 for a single, because the room price is the same), which includes the room for two nights, dinner Friday and Saturday, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
If You Want To Go
There are only 14 rooms available, and they will be reserved on a first come first serve basis. The Inn will hold rooms for us only until Tuesday, January 31, so we need to know if you are interested by that date. If you would like to attend the Adult Retreat, or have any questions, please contact Hakafa's volunteer retreat organizer, Jonah Orlofsky.
