Adult Ed Option 2 - Community Safety and Police Accountability in Chicago: A Jewish Perspective
All Hakafa adults are invited to please join us at the Takiff Center for Adult Study in Community Room 1.
Please join Paul Peterson and Jacob Rosenbaum from the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) who will discuss Community Safety and Police Accountability in Chicago: A Jewish Perspective. For decades, Black and Brown communities have experienced the worst effects of unchecked police brutality. People across Chicago remain outraged over police shootings like those of Laquan McDonald, Rekja Boyd, and Kajuan Raye. Police accountability involves holding both individual police officers as well as law enforcement agencies responsible for effectively serving and protecting our communities while treating individuals fairly and with the bounds of the law.
The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA), as part of its broader pursuit of social and economic justice for Chicago’s most vulnerable people, has mobilized a campaign to support police accountability and community safety. Paul and Jacob will:
- discuss why police accountability is a Jewish issue
- educate us on police accountability issues in Chicago
- describe the JCUA campaign, the organizations that they have partnered with, and how we can help in their work to advocate for reform.
Adult Study takes place on Sunday mornings during Religious School. All Hakafa adults are invited to participate.
